I bought the Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder early last year as it had been hyped up so much in the beauty world.
It was made famous by the makeup god that is mario dedivanovic using it on Kim Kardashian to give her the famous highlighted look.
Described as - Ben Nye Luxury Powders provide superior matte and subtle finishing. Often compared to French powders with silky-fine textures.
The powder can be used lightly as an all over setting powder, or as a highlighter when using precise application on the bridge of the nose, centre of the forehead under the eyes etc. Everywhere you would normally highlight, the banana powder intensifies the look.
Now I naively bought this product thinking it was Kim K cheek bones in a bottle, I was wrong........so.wrong.
I'm a NC25 girl from Britain not a tanned middle eastern beauty, so it didn't reeeaaaally look the same on me as it did Kim.
So unless I have a tan this product doesn't work for me for its highlighting purpose, as it looks so stark yellow on my skin.
Up until the summer when I have got a bit of colour on my face, I used this very lightly as a setting powder dusting across my face & it works brilliantly, applies smoothly & doesn't crease.
For when I am using the powder to highlight I apply using my beauty blender, under my eyes, down the bridge of my nose, middle of my forehead & it gives a very intense highlight!
So I only us this on nights out, its definitely not a day time look (& I like a full face in the day so that's saying something). One problem I have is it really does crease & settle into my fine lines under my eyes so I use sparingly around that area.
Here is a swatch & below that is the powder lightly rubbed into the skin. |
If you are a NC25 or lower with pink not yellow based skin tone I personally wouldn't suggest this powder.
Ben Nye have a whole range of other shades in this line so there is plenty to pick from for all skin tones.
The container is plastic with black plastic screw on lid, so nothing particularly fancy. The powder is secure in the container with a dispenser similar to that of baby power, preventing powder explosions.
I purchased mine from my favourite theatrical makeup supplier on ebay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ stagedoor1971 for around £15.99.

Have you tired Ben Nye Banana Powder?
I hope your all well & having a lovely week :)
I did EXACTLY the same! I'm fair/medium skin tone & used this and it DID NOT make me look like Kim :( I ended up giving it away to a darker skin toned friend and it looks great on her!
ReplyDeleteLOL IN LOVE with your little picture at the bottom! Hahah so true!
Glad you like maple Blondie! :)

DeleteYes thank you for suggesting maple blonde I LOVE it. xx
I was thinking of trying this but I'm in two minds as I don't really use that much powder. I am quite olive skinned so hopefully it should be ok.
ReplyDeleteI love that little pic you put at the end... soo funny!

I'm sure it would look stunning on your skin tone! xx
DeleteGreat review Megan! I've been lusting after this after hearing Kimmy K used it, however I only tan at weekends so might be a watse.

DeleteThanks for this post, honestly I have been thinking about getting this, but I am super pale! So I don't think it would work.
ReplyDeleteIf only we had Kim K skin tone it would be great xx
DeleteGreat post! I am light-medium with pink undertones and I think I'd probably have the same results you did!
ReplyDeleteIf we layed out in the sun for a couple weeks straight I'm sure the powder would then look great haha. xx
DeleteI’ve heard so much about this and had completely forgot about it! So glad I came across your post, I’m quite tanned so I think I’ll give this a go!

Great concept but just not ideal for us paler skin ladies. xx
Deletei think im going to get this the next time i'm at IMATS. usually drugstore foundations run too pink for my yellowtoned skin and this might do the trick to balance it out, thanks for the post!

Give it a try sweetie, it may work well for you. Every one is different. xx
DeleteHahahaha had to save the little pic at the end , classic! I have this , it's okay but it's not the miracle powder everyone makes it out to be ... Super overrated .... Or am just clueless about makeup? Haha!

No I totally agree Hun, but I guess everyone is different. xx
DeleteSounds like a good powder but I have super pale skin with pink undertones :( x
ReplyDeleteofbeautyandnothingness.blogspot.co.uk
They have a wide range of other shades to try out though huni. xx
DeleteI've heard so much about this product but to be honest, I wouldn't know where to start when applying it! My face isn't overly tanned either, so I'm not sure how it would look!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, just wanted to say - I absolutely love your blog! You have such a lovely writing style, which makes it so easy to read (I've been scrolling through your archives and reading all your other posts too). Can't wait to read more!

That's ok sweetie, thank you xx
Deletei bought this online after all the hyper his product got.. and i really didnt like it. IM an nc20-30 and i do have yellow undertones but it didnt really brighten for me. A product I REALLY RECOMMEND for more fair skin tones is the bare minerals well rested powder or the inglot yellow powder. I hated how the ben nye creased on me.
ReplyDeleteOoo thank you so much for the tip I will have a look into the well rested powder! xx
DeleteAh I've seen so many rave reviews for this! I'm probably an NC5 so this would be way too dark for me... damn Kim K's bone structure! xx
